We've Expanded!
On October 15, Veicon moved to new, larger
quarters. Starting from an empty shell in a local industrial park in
July, we were able to lay out a very functional working area. This has
all come together to result in a finished product that exceeds our
expectations. We'll tell you more about it in future issues of V-News.
|
While providing the needed space for recently added
employees, this move also provides functionality that we could only
dream about over the past few years. One of the most needed features is
a new staging area that allows us to pre-test and configure a complete
system without using our conference table, lunch room, and personal
desks. As A. Dale Aufrecht, Operations Manager and coordinator of this
move stated, "The improved work flow in our new staging area will allow
us to turn out systems faster and more efficiently."
Over the past 24 months, Veicon has grown significantly.
This growth is "…the result of an increased interest and confidence in
the thin-client concept as implemented by V-Link" according to Stewart
Bartlett, Executive Director, Library Business. "Many of our recent
sales have been to current customers as they expand their installed
V-Link systems."
Our new offices are located only about a half mile from
our previous location so our phone numbers remain the same. All that
changes is our address. You can now

Veicon Technology Adds Print Cost Recovery to its Integrated Public
Access Solution for Libraries
Beaverton Oregon - September, 2003 - Veicon
Technology, Inc., expands capabilities of the V-Print service to
include Print Cost Recovery (PCR) solutions for libraries. Veicon
successfully offers thin client based PCR solutions with a wide range
of "pay for print" options to save library staff time and operating
budget. Some of the many benefits of V-Print-PCR include: Low initial
cost, patron privacy, and the ability to integrate with existing PCR
setups libraries may have in place.
"Today most libraries are struggling
to support the increasing number of public stations with reduced
capital and operating budgets," stated Dr. Chong Lee, Executive VP and
founder of Veicon Technology. "Our turnkey IPAS system with "V-Print"
PCR capabilities will allow libraries to overcome some of these
challenges with minimal staff resources and budget dollars."
V-Link terminals will work with the
following PCR choices: Online account management systems, stored value
card systems (magnetic stripe and smart cards) and coin / bill based
units.

V-Print stored value card
Veicon was recently awarded a contract by
the Hillsboro Public Library (Hillsboro, OR) to set up coin-based print
cost recovery solutions at their two libraries; Shute Park and
Tanasbourne Public Library. Not only will the system recover costs of
printing and reduce staff intervention but it can encourage patrons to
know what and how much they are printing. For smaller libraries such as
Tanasbourne Library, printing represents a significant cost. By
transitioning from the "honor system" to an automated PCR solution,
those costs become more controllable.
Additional features available on Veicon
units include multi-level security and built-in automatic virus
protection, flexible content filtering, broadcast messaging, and
session time control. Information on specific features will appear in
future newsletters.

Uncle Remus
Regional Library System
The Uncle Remus Regional Library System consists
of six Georgia library communities originally founded in 1947.
Following a successful pilot project of nine V-Link terminals placed at
Hancock County Library with time management software (V-Timer™) and
external disk drives, the consortium members have started the order to
replace over 25 PC stations at O'Kelly Memorial Library, W.H Stanton
Memorial Library and Monroe-Walton County Library with V-Link thin
client terminals.
Veicon technicians will assist the installation of the
17" LCD terminals by traveling to the site and supporting the system
remotely. The units will be used for a mixture of Internet, OPAC, MS
Word, and a few circulation stations using Sirsi Workflows software.
V-Link
in action!
"To date we have had excellent results using
V-Link. The improved reliability of the V-Link units has been greatly
appreciated by both library patrons and staff. The Uncle Remus Regional
Library System, of which Sparta-Hancock County Library is a member,
looks to expand the V-Link System to several of its other members in
the coming months." Charles May, Systems Librarian, URRLS
Like many other library systems, Uncle
Remus was finding that PC maintenance had become too time consuming,
taking away valuable staff time from helping patrons. The V-Link system
will help staff concentrate on primary job functions.
